About Guangdong Medical University Guangdong Medical University (GDMU) was founded in 1958 as the Zhanjiang Branch of Sun Yat-Sen Medical College and now consists of two campuses, one of which is located in Zhanjiang, an important provincial sub center cities in Guangdong and the other of which is situated in the beautiful Songshan Lake Science and Technology Industrial Park of Dongguan, a core city in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. GDMU is the largest base for medical professionals and one of the 16 universities authorized to award the doctorate in Guangdong. Both the university itself and the discipline of Clinical Medicine have been listed among the global top 1% in ESI (Essence of Scientific Indicators) ranking from 2015. Since 2019, the university has been listed in CWUR and USNews World University Rankings. In 2020, the pharmacology and toxicology has become another discipline listed among the global top 1% in ESI ranking. GDMU currently has an enrollment of 20,000 full-time students, 14 schools (departments), 33 undergraduate programs ,7 affiliated hospitals, 12 non-affiliated clinical medical schools and 26 non-affiliated teaching hospitals.
